Folk Group Spring Festival at Easter 2026
Hi everyone,
This could be the last time that I will be writing to you in the Newsletter with news of our Spring Festival next year which will be happening at TDMS (the De Montford School is now known by this name) from 2nd to 7th April. We, that is my fellow coordinators have been busy working hard getting workshops, dance callers, dances and Singers Gather plus we wish to continue the Pub/bar sessions. The intention is to have a Concert or variety show, but as always it relies upon volunteers who wish to perform on the Sunday evening.
The Family Festival with Maypole and other activities is looking good and they confirmed that we will have the ‘Bedtime stories again next year, which I am very pleased about. There is still space to volunteer if you wish to help us and run a workshop or help with anything that you feel could and would be willing to help at any time during our Festival. A very big thank you to those who have already volunteered, and we are looking forward to next year very much.
You will, I hope, have noticed the booking form for 2026 with the new prices, we have had to make a slight increase over the maximum amount to endeavour to cover the costs of the meet and if more of you can come next year, we may even make a profit to help the Folk Group funds.
We recently just looked at the ‘Early Bird’ tickets for Chippenham Folk Festival, which we like going to and this is what they are charging for 2026. The 3 day ticket is £153.80, Youth 11-15 £77.05, 3 day ticket plus camping is £199.64, Youth £99.97. These prices absolutely stunned me then I considered what we do which is volunteer to help/play for a dance team and the organisers offer teams basically a half price ticket plus booking fee! As said, that is just 3 days, we offer 5 nights and the days and I can tell you Chippenham make the teams work a lot! Food for thought.
May I wish you all well and we hope to see some of you before Easter at meets we hope to make and very much look forward to see you at the Spring Festival 2026.

MUMMERS
The Mummers has not been a part of the Spring Festival since the pre Covid days and we would like to get this going again in 2026. We tried in 2025 but there was little or no interest and there are probably many reasons for this. One reason is that the 4 workshops it requires will inevitably present clashes with other workshops people would like to attend.
In order to try and overcome this we are suggesting that some of the ‘casting’ and rehearsing could be done in advance over the internet therefore reducing the number of sessions required at the meet. If anybody is interested in being part of the Mummers then please contact Mick Topliss on mtopliss7@gmail.com or on 07590 427909 for more information.
