August 2019

Our meet at Awbridge saw beautiful summer weather, with many venturing in to the Beggars Fair in Romsey , where there was a whole range of music and entertainment, or to the ice cream parlour nearby.

Our recent meet at Wildhern to celebrate Wessex’s 40th anniversary was a fantastic event. We welcomed friends old and new, both from Wessex past and from other Folk Group areas. On Friday evening we gathered under ‘tent city’ for an informal evening of tunes, songs and nattering. On Saturday we had a fantastic barbecue in the afternoon, then an evening ceilidh showing off the range of talent from Wessex and beyond. The mid-dance break saw a fantastic cake, made by Caroline Mullens, and a seriously impressive array of desserts! With most people staying for the Sunday night, we had another lively evening ceilidh, again with a live band. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend such a success, and to all those who came and helped us celebrate.

Our next two meets are at Milborne St Andrew – a new site for us – and a return to Fordingbridge for the August Bank Holiday.

Please note that the meet at Alderholt has been cancelled, meaning that the next meet in September is the Autumn Gather at Camerton. We look forward to seeing lots of you there!
